Papier mache mask made entirely by hand according to the artisan techniques of the ancient “maschereri”, the great masters of masks.
Hand decorated with acrylic colors, decoupage applications and high quality small parts and trimmings.  The ancient effect was made by a particular type of bitumen applied with skill by the artist.

This product is indicated as a piece of furniture, but at the same time it can be worn as it is equipped with satin laces that make it easy and comfortable to use.

It’s noted for begin worn by the famous Casanova and it’s the most typical venetian mask in 18th century. It’s main function was to hide the face and altered its shape, it could modify his voice,assuring anonimity, allowing every kind of leisure. Both man and woman wore it ; it was obligatory for married woman who went to the theatre , forbidden to unmarried girls. The complete clothing consisted of a black cloat called” tabarro “ which covered the neck and the shoulders, a black cocked hat and the mask , called “ larva “ which is a latin word which means mask . It allowed to drink and eat without take it off, assuring anonimity. It is said that even priests and nuns used to wear it to hide their love affairs.
