STORY:
Meo Patacca is the mask that, together with Rugantino, represents the city of Rome in the Comedy of Art . Character originally from the well-known Roman district of Trastevere, he is a real brawler: always ready to fight, provokes scuffles and fights, but he does it in a nice way. Brave and courageous, witty and impertinent, but with a tender heart, he tells braggarts and always wants to be right.
He wears a velvet jacket, a waistcoat tied on the side, as a belt he uses a colored scarf, in which a dagger is hidden. The handkerchief tied around the neck, on the head a cap worn backwards (or a net in which the hair is collected, leaving a characteristic tuft protruding). The pants are tight at the knee and the shoes have steel buckles. He is often depicted drinking from a flask of wine.
The name of Meo Patacca comes from the coin that constituted the soldiers’ pay, the “patacca”. The character appears for the first time in 600 ′ in a poem by Giuseppe Berneri, where he depicts a brave soldier who never backs down. Use the cane often.
